James Corden Hosts This June 2019 Tony Awards:

The talk show host and funny guy James Corden have been tapped to host Tony Awards for the second time. The 73rd anniversary of the prize show will be presented at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 9 and will be live streamed at CBS.

By 2016, Corden hosted the 70th Annual Tony Awards for critical acclaim: The year’s show won Emmy Award for the special class program.

An official press release from the American Theater Wing’s 2019 Tony Awards said 40-year-old The Let Late Show host “thrilled” about this news. “Broadway community is very dear to my heart and I am not proud to be part of this incredibly special night,” he said.

Cardwell is no stranger to Broadway’s biggest night: In 2012, he played Best Actor in a Man of the Match Man One Day for his work.

In the announcement, Broadway League president Charlotte St. Martin and President of America’s Theater Wing Heather Hitchens warmed the Corden’s praise: “James is not only a favorite talent, but he is also an expert on stage and a true passion for his Broadway,” they say. “We can not wait to see what the Tony Awards have kept for us this year.”

“We and the only James Corden are thrilled to return to host their second Tony Awards,” especially music and live events, CBS Entertainment, Executive Vice President Jack Sussman added. “Celebrating Live Astronomy, the live event is one of the final masters of Live Events Television James. He is an incredibly charming host, brilliant actor and fearless at the stage – with James, something can happen, and probably will be!”
